#Ashoka
Visiting the UK from the US for the first time.
Landed in Sheffield and there’s a reason Ashoka came up highly recommended on the interweb – I’ve never had Indian food quite like this.
It’s a combination of authentic, modern, and reminiscent of something my favorite aunties would make on only special occasions – only better.
Get the Karamelized Kashmiri, and if you like it spicy, the Taxi Driver Curry. They probably trademarked them for a reason!
Staff was amazing, warm, and welcoming. Remembered me and greeted me personally after I returned for a 2nd non-consecutive night – because I just had to make the 1.5 mile trek on foot to eat here again on my 4 night stay.
I may just come back for a 3rd go…
Ashoka was so inviting and had great atmosphere! The booths are a bit small but great for a cozy meal or date night. From the poppadoms and chutneys the meal was off to a stellar start, everything tasted homemade, fresh and flavoursome.
The Kashmiri curry and mixed grill were also superb – lovely charcoaled flavour on the grilled meats and a deep complex, umami flavour in the Kashmiri chicken curry.
The naan and rice were incredible too, perfectly executed.
It felt like a really special meal and not one I’ll forget soon. The service was also great and we received lots of tap water. The beer was one of the best I’ve ever had – it went perfectly with the meal.
Asoka on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield is a true gem and a beloved institution since 1967. My recent visit was nothing short of exceptional.
The food was superb! I had a reyt spiceh curreh, which was hot but incredibly tasty. The flavors were perfectly balanced, making it a delightful culinary experience. The pairing of dishes is excellent, with lots of local produce factored into the menu, showcasing the best of what Sheffield has to offer.
The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and you can feel the rich history and tradition in every corner. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall wonderful dining experience.
I highly recommend Asoka to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Indian meal in Sheffield. This place truly stands the test of time!
Fantastic authentic Sheffield made Indian. The staff were very friendly and the food was very well presented full of flavour. Been here in Sheffield since the 60s. This is well worth a visit!
From first walking in to leaving everything was perfect, the staff were really helpful and friendly, the food was was stunning and the choice was fantastic.
