We thoroughly enjoyed our first food tasting experience at V&V for our wedding anniversary. We were looked after so well from the moment we arrived, with such attentive customer service. Every course was delicious and presented so perfectly, it was just the perfect amount with the beef and cauliflower cheese course being our favourite.
We wouldn’t hesitate to visit again and recommend V&V to our friends and family. Thank you so much, Sian x
Odd one for me this. I want to preface with…my god, this man can cook. Chef Jono’s food is incredible. Beautiful flavours, expertly seasoned, and served exquisitely.
My issues here are the pacing and the dish choices, meaning that I currently would NOT recommend the signature tasting menu, and would instead recommend the lunch tasting menu or Sunday roast.
In terms of dish choice, it was a lot of dense and rich food. The mackerel course was the only one that felt light, and there were no one-biters. Again want to state that the food quality is exceptional. The (excellent) malt loaf should have been a third of the size, and the (incredible) Not French Onion Soup almost finished us off, and that was halfway through.
Adding to this, the pacing of the courses was too fast. I’ve never been to a full tasting menu that was done in two hours. We were almost done after one. Thankfully, service staff noticed and asked if we needed a break after the main courses. We did. We were uncomfortable.
Finally, I think the decor needs a little work. We were sat with a light overhead that felt like we were in an interrogation. So bright. Really distracting, although excellent for food photos. We’d ask for a different table next time.
So yeah. Can’t speak highly enough of the food or the staff, but the tasting menu needs some more thought.
This place is absolutely amazing, a sensory delight. The food was superb – so many wonderful flavours and textures that I kept saying ‘wow!’ We were so well looked after by the staff as well, we will definitely be going back.
A wonderful dining experience which was provided with great food, an interesting wine float and excellent service.
With any premium dining the price is somewhat irrelevant, the food was well thought through and we found that the drinks package matched the flavours well.
The service was great and the staff knew the flavours and could articulate and comment on their views of why the pairing complemented each dish.
– in general, the food was good, however, our main course, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, was very chewy so we could not eat it
– the mushroom risotto was excellent 👌🏼
– very standard choices of ingredients, very safe and classy combinations. Nothing super exciting or new but overall was good.
The major concern, however, is the atmosphere in the restaurant:
1. 80s music does not suit the fine dining restaurant – sorry! Neither rock nor exciting/ happy vibes. It does distract from enjoying and tasting food (more than opened curtains🥲). Some soft jazz, sunset lounge, and chill lounge would be much better.
2. The waiters presented dishes just reading off the menu – I can read, would be nice to know a bit more about a dish. Where the ingredients came from etc.
3. It was dark during our lunch meal. Fine idea to close the curtains but think about the music, which goes in the loop of 1h45mins
Comparing to other, this restaurant is lucky to have a Michelin star
