Chopping Block at Walmgate Ale House

1. We were there with a tour. There were about 30 people in our group. We began by sampling a lager and two ales. Our host explained the differences in the drinks. The appetizers, main course, and dessert were excellent. Even with a large group, the wait staff was friendly and took time to answer questions. It was an excellent introduction to the food of York and the people of York. Well done

2. Absolutely delicious Sunday roast – we had the Roast Beef and Roast Pork, and were able to adjust our vegetable sides due to dietary requirements.
   Loved being able to ask for more gravy and the meat was cooked beautifully. Will definitely go back!
   Thought the effort around dietary requirements was super and it meant I could make an informed choice about my meal.

3. The food was good and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The upstairs restaurant however was kitschy and is in need of a makeover. There was also a smell of an old, tired building that took away from the ambience and enjoyment.

4. Went on a weekday night, having been to the pub downstairs on several occasions and figured we’d try out the restaurant. Had the set menu which was excellent. Awesome cooking, really nicely presented, and friendly and attentive service. The bread and home made butter extra was a tasty and unexpected bonus. Recommended!

5. We ate early so initially we were the only people in the restaurant but later more people began to arrive. Lovely old building, full of history. Very attentive server, food was excellent quality, fresh and very tasty, good portion sizes, we had the tartiflette and then lamb shoulder. Neither of us could fit in a dessert. Good selection of beers and wine. Really enjoyed it, will be back . Thanks
