Corner Grill House

1. Went for dinner a few weeks back with my partner, I chose this restaurant as it had good reviews. And I can see why! It was absolutely amazing!

   I had the lamb with mint gravy, horseradish mash and carrots. It was so delicious I enjoyed every mouthful!

   My partner had the Cajun chicken with crispy new potatoes and broccoli. He said the sauce was amazing and the chicken was cooked perfectly.
   I can’t complement it enough!

   The desserts were amazing as well! We had the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate brownie. The only thing I questioned was the sticky toffee pudding wasn’t heated up but the brownie was which I thought should be the other way or both warm instead. That was the only thing I can think of I would change it was all amazing I would definitely recommend if you’re in York to eat here! I wish I lived closer so I can eat here all the time!

2. Very good food. Well prepared and friendly service. Definitely will be going back. Baked mushrooms were sooo good. Aged steak and ox cheak we melt in your mouth delicious. Tiramisu martini also a big hit.

3. I have to add this but please take no notice of the review just below this from the person who felt the need to complain about their meal/s.
   We had to endure sitting next to them but we laughed it off as we just couldn’t relate any of it to our experience!! The staff couldn’t do enough to ensure they were having a nice meal but some people can never be pleased! (Their food can’t of been that bad as there was nothing left on their plates!)

   Moving onto my review! The place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, good crowded atmosphere when we walked in. We ordered the chilli prawns to start which where excellent and I have to say the waiting on staff where brilliant and very attentive, probably the best I’ve come across in a long time (since covid changed the face of eating out to some degree!)
   We then shared the 20oz T bone steak with three sides as a main.
   My only point to note would be the chips did taste a little dry and “frozen style”. But the steak, glazed carrots and garlic mushrooms were perfect!
   Home made tripple cooked chips would have been perfect. But not enough to knock a star off for though as the steak was superb.
   Thanks for a lovely meal!

4. Despite my eager to like that place, I cannot say the experience was great.

   We ordered 2 rib eye steaks.
   I ordered rare and my partner medium rare.

   First: I don’t think my steak was rare. It was closer to medium rare.

   Second: I’m not sure if the rib eye was prime quality, many pieces of the meat was hard to chew and I didn’t spot a lot of juice in my meat, which gives me a clue, it was select beef.

   On the good side: my partner liked the food and mushrooms side was nicely cooked.

5. Steak and Ox Cheek was sublime. Food cooked as requested, presentation superb. As good a steak as I’ve tasted in a couple of years (was the old Corner Grill!!). Service excellent and looked after us. Only reason for 4 stars is I do not give 5 stars ,ever. But 4 needs to be earned and by God it was. Once again thanks to the CGH management and excellent staff
