  1. Arrived at 5pm (closes at 5:30).
Half the seating area was closed off because they were already cleaning for closing time, meaning no options to sit on the comfier seats (baring in mind one of our group has terminal cancer).
The blind was already pulled down on the food area despite it being half an hour to closing so no food options.
The dishwasher was already on so no actual crockery available so all given take away cups. My drink was put in two take away cups inside one another, as it was too hot, and did not cool down during the time we were in there as it was in an inappropriate cup – wound up taking it home and drinking an hour later!

If you are a cafe which closes at 5:30, surely cups, food and seats are the bare minimum until that time?

  2. Hit and miss, sometimes the drinks are great, other times they give half the volume that you normally get especially if you have a takeway cup (once got half the amount of drink I normally get from other costa’s in my takeaway cup). Also the Wifi never seems to work properly or if you do get on it it’s like being back in the 90’s on dial up. A shame as it’s a nice location.

  3. Just been in Costa this afternoon on Middlewood Rd and had a very poor experience.
Firstly half the shop was closed off allegedly due to cleaning in progress yet 1 hour later in a quiet Costa zero cleaning was happening, replaced by the staff chatting behind the counter instead. There was however what appeared to be a more senior member of Costa staff sat in the area on a laptop (perhaps Area Manager?) until he moved after my enquiry asking if we could sit there, to be told no.
1 hour in I asked about the toilet as all toilet doors were locked, I was told the disabled toilet was in use but must have someone in (yet no one came out of it over the following 30mins or so?) but the others were locked for cleaning but again no cleaning evident ANYWHERE! I tried again after another 40mins or so and managed to get to the toilet finally.
Come on Costa, it was pretty evident you were preventing customers using 50% of the shop area and the toilets to prevent the need to clean up after….not good service, it’s not about what’s easiest for your staff it should be about your customers having an enjoyable experience.

  4. Been a long time regular customer and have praised staff before but as someone with mental health issues would like to specifically praise Jo and Zoe for their excellent service today they’ve also been very supportive when I’ve had health issues in the past really appreciated Mike x

  5. Did you know Costa was bought by Coca-Cola in 2019? And there are nearly 4,000 outlets worldwide and our info says they turnover £1.2 Billion a year? We think that’s about a million cups of coffee, tea or whatever you fancy are being served in Costa somewhere every day!

This Costa is busy and getting its fair share of that trade. The staff were very helpful indeed, the coffee was good, not the best in our view and service could have been a tad quicker. The place was very noisy and not the most relaxing, but our overall rating was four stars.

Founded in London in 1971 by brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa as a wholesale operation, they supplied roasted coffee to caterers and specialist Italian coffee shops.

Costa was once owned by Whitbread plc, the Premier Inn people. Coca-Cola seems to have plans to take on the competition in the USA with the ‘Green’ label, and why not? We think that chain turns over £20 Billion a year, so why not have a go? Best of luck to Coca-Cola.
