#Ellimatta
Antipodean gem in Cambridge! I can imagine a homesick Aussie doing a double-take at some of the specialities here, but that would be one of many reasons to come here for a flat white, an excellent, filling sandwich, or a sweet treat like the in-house chocolate mousse (one of the best, actually THE best I’ve ever had) or the homemade Anzac cookies. Owned and run by music lovers, there is even a vinyl room! Clean toilet, lovely friendly service. The sandwiches are truly inventive with a gorgeous vegan option. Wish I lived nearer and could visit more often.
We visited Ellimatta a couple weeks back when it was still sunny in Cambridge and were blown out of the water with how friendly everyone was and how good the sandwiches were.
There was a choice of sandwich for everyone it seems as we ended up buying every different choice between us. I chose the curried egg with the crunchy Bombay mix and spicy rocket. Which I recommend to anyone meat eaters or not. I did not want to share.
Stepping into Ellimatta felt like going back home to Australia with the selection of imported goodies on the wall and cold selection of soft drinks. As well as the sandwiches, we gobbled down some Anzac biscuits, Caramelo koalas and a cold Milo.
You can tell the quality of the cafe when the mound of Milo floats over the glass like a mountain of whipped cream.
I have been back recently to buy presents for family including a trip to the back room to browse the great selection of tape decks and vinyl for sale.
10/10 must visit. Home away from home.
It was an experience I will value after traveling Europe for about a month, and coming from cycling the Pyranees mountains. the owners Shane and Amanda made me feel like a local. I came in for a coffee stayed for a lunch salad and the Australian biscuit after hearing the origin of the story explained by Shane. He also welcomed me to hear some records in the back he has. Huge collection for sale. Ended up spending a couple hours. Worth a few extra minutes to get here no matter where you’re from. All that being said I’m from the states and roast my own coffee and when I found out he didn’t roast I almost chose another location however Amanda asked Shane to explain his espresso blend and hearing the passion he brought into the blend and relationship
With the roaster I tried an expresso and was pleasantly surprised and the experience you read was the result.
Very lovely customer service – great menu with Australian goods that you can buy too 🙂
The vinyl room was also really cool
Shane and Amanda are such warm and welcoming hosts! I stumbled upon this place and it is truly a gem. Excellent vibes in here. I was able to pick up one of my favourite albums on vinyl for such a reasonable price! Definitely recommend, this is going to become one of my go-to local cafes for sure.
