I’m not sure what’s changed at this Oxford institution! This used to be an amazing place to visit, amazing coffee, amazing food, amazing ice cream and it was clean and had friendly staff. I visited today and ordered a Regular Mocha. There was only one member of staff who were very grumpy.
The mocha was served in a disposable cup when previously it was a ceramic one and was tiny! When did the sizes change? The mocha itself tasted horrible – it was grainy and bitter. I left it.
The table was sticky so moved to a window seat and the surface was sticky again. It was over everything as if it hadn’t been cleaned.
I went to the loo downstairs, and was shocked to see the kitchen door propped open with a fire extinguisher and showed the floor covered in what looked like seeds and dirt (??)
The toilet was very dirty around and under the seat and needed a good scrub.
I was going to order some food but decided it wasn’t worth trying.
G&D’s on the Cowley Road was the opposite of this experience last week with such a good vibe, friendly staff, great bagels and yummy coffee.
A local friend from Oxford recommended a handmade dessert shop, and she said I must try their world-famous gelato. I tried it myself, and it’s really delicious. It’s handmade, and only available in Oxford. The shop is beautifully decorated, and besides ice cream, they also offer salads, coffee, and bagels. It’s a great place to take a break if you’re tired from walking around before continuing your journey. I highly recommend trying it when visiting Oxford. Note: The flavors change daily, so if you’re unsure about a new flavor, you can ask the staff for a sample.
george and danvers is a local must try in oxford. they serve homemade authentic ice cream with varying flavours aswell as salads, bagels, and other drinks. they have lots of seating and extra downstairs seating! they also sell ice cream cakes, but must order 7 days in advance 🙂
The shop is innovative in exploring interesting flavour ice-creams. Unfortunately it is still stubbornly limiting itself to sorbets offerings for vegans. Expect very long queues on busy touristy days.
The ice cream here was really good! I liked the jaffa cake flavor and the mint chip was really good! Great plain vanilla too
