Heffers Bookshop

1. My 12 year old daughter is a bookworm and thought the shop was beautiful. We spend ages browsing and obviously didn’t come out empty handed. Lovely staff too. It was recommended by a friend and well worth the visit.

2. Cavernous bookshop you could spend hours in, as there’s sections for everyone from all walks of life. Interesting and well-curated displays. Drops a star as there’s barely any mobile reception in the building, possibly due to the wood covered concrete walls/pillars.

3. Absolutely fantastic, great selection and really knowledgeable staff. I recommend their film literature section, its quite well stocked. Very cozy with a classic bookshop feel. Great for when you want to buy a specific book and get great customer service and recommendations, as well as for an afternoon of browsing through their extensive stock. Highly recommend!

4. OMG. This is the paradise to all booklovers. Could have spent hours in there. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Great opportunity to buy books.

After the expansion of the second-hand section across the basement, and the addition of a couple of couches and tables to encourage browsing, the lowest level of Heffers has rapidly become one of the cosiest spots to spend a couple of hours in. It’s rare not to be able to find a hidden gem for about £2–3 among the second-hand stacks, and while most of the books there are closer to £5–10 and the academic editions £10–25, it’s also the sort of place it’s never a loss of time to look carefully through, as one is bound to walk out with a number of ideas of what to look up next at one’s local library.
