I had trouble opening the door, because not only is it heavy, but there’s a big plastic sign to the left. If you come in with a walker (like I did), or with a wheelchair, you need a little space to get close enough to safely pull the door without hurting yourself.
A customer opened the door for me, and the cashier said he would go move the sign, but there isn’t a lot of room to move it and have it stay inside the overhang area out front. It was a right where it had been when I left.
Also, I ordered a pot of tea for one. The menu says that should be $4.50. It was $6. I pointed this out, and the cashier simply said “uh…that’s the only pot of tea we have.”
The cashier did bring my tea to me, which was kind. It would have been tough to carry the cup and the pot.
Then, as I was settling in, someone came in with a dog on a very loose leash. I am terrified of dogs, and the space between the counters and chairs is so small, that there really was nowhere to flee.
She just tied the dog to the chair, as he sniffed everything within the several feet of rope she gave him, and wandered the cafe to order and do other things.
That was when I left.
It’s one thing to be inn accessibile. Much of the world is. Friendliness can make up for much inaccessibility. But to overcharge, and then let dogs wander (the whole point of a service dog is to be with the owner, and most are clearly marked. This woman left the dog while she did all the things she wanted to do: order, pee, talk to people, etc). It really gives a bad rep when people who actually would benefit from a service animal get side eyes because those who don’t give a damn abuse having their pets in places that serve food and such.
It was just one bad experience after another here.
Coffee is open 11 pm omg 🙂 It is really good. Because generally you can not find anywhere in usa on this hours. Coffees really good taste. Prices are normal. Not expensive. Btw you can sit and watch street and study.
My OG love is the Jaho in Salem, MA for the quirky vibes. Every Jaho is slightly different in terms of decor and ambiance – but I have to say how this one is a new favorite and a sweet spot, especially for the neighborhood of Cambridge. Their drinks are definitely on the sweeter end, but if you get something like their Iced Kulfi latte (with cute bear ears to boot), it’s a super unique flavor bomb. Seasonal specials like the Summer in Singapore are also fun!
I absolutely love coming to the central square store! The waitresses Dreysse and Rafaela are incredibly friendly and attentive, always remembering my name and my usual spot. The environment is perfect for getting work done – it’s cozy, with great coffee and just the right amount of background music to keep me focused. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a welcoming and productive spot!
I enjoyed the Boston JAHO cafe but dare I say this one in Cambridge is more inviting albeit a smaller space. Excellent coffee options with milk alternatives, even walnut milk. Good pastry, my favorite peanut butter chocolate chip cookie.
