Herschel’s was an experience of atmosphere, savory pastrami Reuben with Russian dressing on a wonderful rye bread. Paired with a Dr. Browns it how you “everything!”
Turkey was an outstanding alternative’healthier’ choice, which the matzoh ball soup was rated by my guests as just average. We all make homemade chicken noodle soup as well as matzoh ball soup. Pictures are always worth more than words. The pastrami was nicely done with just the right amount of fat.
The market is well worth multiple visits to if you’re in Philly for a while as there’s so much choice you can have something different each time. As well as iconic Philly dishes, you’ll also find all the basics covered and cuisine from most countries around. And if you’re cooking for yourself, there are also plenty of great ingredients here to rival those in the nearby Italian market.
A stand-out for us was Tommy Dinic’s that did the most incredible pork sandwiches, but also the sheer number of places doing great deserts, pasties and cakes.
We went here to eat after seeing the National Constitution Center. We tried the cheese steak. Afterall, we were in Philadelphia. That and the fries were very good. There are several different food vendors there. You could spend hours seeking out good food and treats.
What can I say about the market place that has it all. A must stop if you are a tourist. Reading has anything and everything you can think about, from naked goods to fresh produce, to fish right from the ocean. There is so much to write about, I just say go and see for yourself. On a plus note, you are centrally located to all the historical landmarks.
Everything was amazing. I wish it opened up a little earlier. There was a line to get in at 7:30. It opens at 8. It was a quick bite for breakfast. I went to Miller’s pretzels to get a sausage, egg and cheese stuffed pretzel…..the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had in my entire life!
