The owner was very rude to a young woman and berated her in the middle of the cafe. A very tense and uncomfortable environment. The rest of the staff, however, were lovely super friendly. It is a shame he has let down the rest of the team.
This has been my favourite cafe in Shawlands for years and atmosphere, comfy couches and food are all really excellent. But I got a bagel, cold drink and empire biscuit the other day and it came to £13!! Also I ordered a standard single espresso and there was literally 1cm of coffee in the cup which you never get, I was so disappointed overall.
I am always in this place. The menu has everything you could need. .The food and drink is great (highly recommend the vegetarian chilli) . The atmosphere is lovely and friendly. Average prices.
Loads of space and chairs and tables. Cool art on wall for sale.
They have plugs and singular tables in the back corner so it is handy for working/, studying on a laptop .
All in all a lovely, friendly cafe .
I really enjoy going there , either by myself to work/write or for lunch and coffees with friends and family ,😀
Came for lunch today and ordered 2 pizzas and potato wedges! When ordering was told that there would be a wait (not specified) due to small oven being used. Waited an hour for food and no update was given. Pizza arrived undercooked and soggy. Politely asked them to cook it a little longer and that seemed to be no issue until another waitress returned with the pizza and couldn’t have been any more unpleasant to us. Placed pizzas down and told us it wouldn’t make any difference and stormed off.
No cutlery,condiments or napkins provided.
Won’t be back! 🙂
Here’s my experience today @spillthebeans_19
I arrived first before my two friends, so I buy a snack from the counter and find a seat to wait on them arriving. The owner walks up to me after 5 minutes ready for a confrontation, saying my energy drink was disrespectful and I was talking up space for other customers, so i have 15 minutes to move seats because I was taking up his precious couch (the place was empty mind you) Normally I’d kindly oblige of course i understand if they don’t want outside drinks in their shop. I told him I was waiting on my friends to arrive to order together and he basically treated me as if I was lying.
Disgusting attitude tbh there were so many other couches empty. Fair enough if I was waiting for hours and not buying anything but I told him I’d be happy to buy something and he wasn’t having it. I left feeling really uncomfortable. Other customers even approached me afterwards to ask if I was okay because of his hostility.
Racially motivated? Probably
Unnecessarily escalating things with me over a drink? Definitely 👍
It’s a shame about the owner because the staff are so nice
