This is a decent enough giant Tesco. It’s really centrally located, not far from the centre of Sheffield- not many cities have a supermarket this large in such a central place. Well done.
A mere two minutes walk from the delights of Wicker, this massive store is located on the first floor, squatting awkwardly above its own car park.
Entry as a pedestrian feels like an afterthought and lets this shop down. You either have to enter via a narrow staircase or walk through the carpark.
The narrow staircase has restricted hours. Often closed, today it was out of action due to structural issues… what sort of staircase has structural issues… 🤔
Inside, two travelators lead upward. There is a cafe, but the Magnificent Seven breakfast is but a memory, lost to the fog of time. A hint of a thing remembered.
The store itself is typical of a big Tesco. Decent choice, but like all Tescos, the choice of sandwiches is poor. Tesco just doesn’t seem able to do sandwiches.
Everything is all over the place, the signage is really small! You can only see it when you get to it. Some of the products are really cheap especially if you have a club card. The toilets are really nice with a three 3in1 dispenser. The self scanners are a lot better than the one at Asda.
Tesco Extra is, as everyone knows, a mega-market. Sorry to say this was an average-market experience.
We rarely use this store as it is just too big. We came here on 17-Nov, hoping to get a good choice of their “Free-From” range – which we did thank you.
Parking was easy and access to the main store was via travelator from ground floor parking to the first floor main entrance. So far so good!
Due to its size, this store is not great for a quick shop and it took us about three quarters of an hour. There are Tesco Express stores competing with many others for a quick shop, but we would not have got what we wanted.
On our return, we initially tried to descend the stairs from first floor to ground floor. The stairwell only provided access to Saville Street, as it turned out that we could not take the stairs down to the car park at this side of the building… A rather strange design.
So… back up the stairs, to take the travelator back down. For some reason, the exit from the travelator to the car park which we used when we arrived, was blocked off on our return journey, with pedestrian guardrail and a number of people who were just seemingly sitting there wearing high viz coats.
So, we walked the full length of the travelator to enter the north end of the car park, to walk back to our car, on the south side. I felt like a cup of tea after all this walking… which reminds me…
When we arrived, we wanted a snack and a drink in the café, but the staircase from the first floor of the store was blocked off, with a bench! So we went up the travelator from first to second and had to walk all the way back from the east end of the store, to reach the café at the west end. And when we got there, there was no-one attending to the café. We waiting a minute, no-one arrived and so we went back to the travelator to head to the first floor to start our shop!
We filled a hand basket with high quality goods, with a selection of fresh fruit, vegetables and Gluten-free products and thanks for that. We may be tempted to try another store next time for more convenience and a cup of tea!
Woke agenda posted everywhere, less staff on tills so you have to go scan you own stuff which is basically turning you Into a free staff member.. Too many self service and trying to encourage more card payments and less cash which is bad for any society.
First in person big shop in here as I usually only buy bits but I’m sick and tired of being followed around the store by their racist security staff, the a@ian guy was on every aisle I’m on until I got to the till!! All the security staff are the same in an area that’s 95% mixed. Sort it out tesco or I’m making a formal complaint.
