The Captains Table

1. I went to the Captain’s Table in Glengormley for lunch and I had to try the legendary Kings Envelope. It’s basically a calzone with kebab meat and chicken kebab. I got a large one (normal and extra large ones are also available). I’m happy to say that it was great! I really enjoyed it! Next time I get one I will ask for extra sauce or mayo as a dip. This would enhance it even further. After eating this I did not need anything else for the rest of the day. My friend had salt and chilli chicken with chips which she really enjoyed. The menu here is extensive so there is something for everyone. I recommend you give it a try.

2. Place seems a nice bright and popular location. Do quite a few different things. I went for a cod at lunchtime. Was a fairly decent piece of cod although size of fish is down everywhere. Like many places I visit in the area though, the batter was too thick and not crispy. I’m not sure if they’re trying to compensate for smaller fillets these days but I’d rather they drained the batter a bit more and cooked it to crispy. I know there will be a bit of softening on the way home normally but I ate mine a couple of minutes from the restaurant. Anyway, while it was passable I’d probably try something else next time. I did think their chips were decent though so no complaints there. Again, the place seems popular and they do a lot of specials, I just wasn’t enamoured with their cod offering.

3. Best chippy about. Don’t have many pics but their scampi and chips is amazing, I really enjoy their pizzas too! Chippys in general are fairly expensive now but this place is fairly reasonable all things considered.

4. Chicken curry, chips and rice is delicious and is a big portion. I usually have to get a take out box to take the remainder home for a scooby snack later. Hubby had the captains crunch box which was chips, chicken goujons, sausage, onion rings and pepper sauce. It was very nice. The pepper sauce was quite dark but very tasty. We always nip in here for food when in the area.

5. I just had the best gluten free fish & chips for lunch, it tasted great and was a lovely crispy texture not greasy. Kind staff, fantastic food. Can’t wait to come back and try the gluten free chicken.
