Don’t be fooled by the sterile, hotel-like atmosphere. This place is outstanding and has all the authentic Irish flavors you’re looking for. The steak and ale pie was among the best I’ve ever had, and no one in my party left unhappy. It’s an excellent spot for dinner.
We stopped for lunch at The Exchange in Derry/Londonderry and were thoroughly impressed by both the food and the atmosphere. I ordered the tuna and cheese sandwich along with the seafood soup, and both dishes were great.
The tuna and cheese sandwich was light and fluffy, with the tuna being well-seasoned. The cheese added a creamy richness that complemented the tuna perfectly.
The seafood stew was equally as good with a variety of seafood in a creamy broth. Both were comforting and satisfying dishes that I would highly recommend to any seafood lover.
First and won’t be the last. We arrived at 5.20 (opens at 5pm) and we got the second to last table left. Couldn’t believe how busy it was. We had the salt & chilli chicken to start, bang bang chicken, ribs& steak and brownie to finish. The steak was a tad fatty but cooked perfectly. The chicken was delicious, however it coming on a hanging skewer is extremely inconvenient. Especially since it comes in more of a bowl than a plate. The woman next to me was struggling with hers too. Couldn’t fault the food or service though.
Excellent food . Well presented. Restaurant was very busy had to wait a little while for a table , but it was worth it.
They don’t take bookings so you just turn up.
I Had steak and my son steak strips.
Parmesan fries are tasty
Amazing food which gives this place the 5 stars alone. The menu is quite varied with chicken, beef and vegetarian options.
The only gripe I have about the exchange is the first come first serve method – it seems to be whenever you arrive on a busy day you have to wait upwards of an hour at the bar. The only issue with that, is that the bar has about 10 seats.
This leads to a crowded entry area on busy days, which could easily be solved with a booking system.
All in all, however, even with the wait I would recommend The Exchange!
