  1. A very classy and sophisticated interior design with an ambience oozing old money elegance. The cocktail bar serves interesting and delicious drinks whilst the restaurant is stunning. Food was nice but not extraordinary. Service was very decent overall. Highly recommended and most definitely one of the best in Belfast. (expensive though).

  2. Had dinner here on a weekday evening. Exquisite ambience and service from the staff. Service was excellent!

The food took long to arrive but they were decent enough to apologise and let us know about the delay. I enjoyed the meals.

I didn’t fancy the drinks though, I hope they have more non-alcoholic options for folks like me

I asked for an anniversary themed desert for my wife to mark the anniversary for when we first started to date, and they did just that 👏

  3. The ambience is so beautiful! The staff are so polite and welcoming. Unfortunately, the meals took too long to be served, but they apologized for the delay. The meals were tasty but I would recommend more mocktail options as there were only a few selections and they didn’t taste nice.

  4. Located in the merchant hotel, the entrance to the great room Restaurant is up the front entrance stairs which is the original front of the hotel via a revolving door and on entry, there is a massive chandelier with a glass cupola and beautiful gold
ceiling work – very opulent interior.

It’s very large area. Friday night dinner with only half the table filled. Central Palm feature- piece with up lighting .

Refreshing cocktail was very good- fresh, yuzu based, candied grapefruit on the top. London prices for cocktail- £16.

Mains of John Dory- a special for the day, was not a large portion with two broccoli stems and a coriander sauce – was overpriced for the size.

Service was attentive and excellent with a 10% charge to the bill.

Overall it’s the ambience which makes dining there special. Service is attentive, but overpriced for the food standard and portion size.

  5. I went to The Great Room with my boyfriend for our anniversary. It was a stunning place. We ordered the tasting menu and most things were fabulous. The food was delicious.

Although the beef was a bit overcooked, the staff offered us a change of the dish. We didn’t want to waste food so we didn’t take the offer. She then offered a complimentary drink. The restaurant also offered us a cake for the celebration of our anniversary.

Their scallops were cooked so nicely and the dessert is 100% a must try. I can feel the chef considered the combination of the food when they were designing the menu and they did so well on desserts. The yuzu, strawberry and wasabi sounded unusual combination but it was a fantastic combo with tiny bit of spicy from wasabi and the sourness of yuzu and strawberry makes refreshing combo! Amazing!

Service wise, I felt a bit neglected. We tried to make eye contact with the waiter but he walked past us a lot of times. Until a waitress saw us and she asked us is there anything she could do for us. At this level of restaurant, I would expect more service. Turned out, it was the waitress looked after us more than the waiter who took our order! We waited very long to get our bill.

Overall, I can feel the chef respected their menu and the food they designed and the waitress was well trained and able to deal with the situation. I would still recommend to come to this restaurant for the food despite the service was slightly disappointed me.
