We headed to the tavern after checking out the mansions. Parking around here is a nightmare and the closer to the water you go the harder it is to find anywhere to park. We were seated right away around 2pm on a Friday. The service was great, people pleasant. Wings were a highlight the buffalo teriyaki sauce mix is great. Burger was ok and the fish and chips was solid.
Calamari was delicious! Cobb salad was good…husband rated the bacon burger a 4…it was medium rare and bacon burnt to a crisp
Second time here. Came initially due to a post I saw on a bloody mary group I am part of on Facebook. Not often do you see local posts so I went right now. Ordered a bloody mary and it was plain and nothing like the post I saw. Now this was a few years ago.
Back in Newport again, I google this place and a picture of the bloody mary I saw on FB pops up, The Sebastian Bloody! I tell the waitress I want one loaded and she starts telling me all the stuff they don’t have such as SHRIMP! (On a Friday night, the day before a seafood festival in Newport) She also told me the shrimp went bad, ew. Anyway I showed her the picture with the lobster claw and said that’s fine as long as it has the lobster claw. She told me they have never had this? Anyway whatever. I’ll drink water. My mom orders a Riesling, nope don’t have any! I’m not a wine drinker but I’d imagine this should be a popular one to have. Mom gets some other wine, wife got a sangria. She said the Sangria wasn’t very good.
Food was decent. I got the ribs, came with corn and potato salad (I thought it was mashed potatoes so was a suprize on the first bite). One of my corn was nice and hot, the other was cold. Ribs weren’t bad, my son had some and loved it.
Overall I doubt I’ll be back with the other great options in the area.
Go for: Stylish, cozy, and quirky gastropub with great beer selection, seafood, and typical pub fare.
Avoid if: You’re looking for a quiet restaurant with no TV screens.
Something surprising: While the space is renovated, the building is historic and over 200 years old.
Reservation needed? Recommended, if going around normal meal times.
Overall Experience: 4/5. Friendly service, delicious food, and an atmosphere that makes tourists feel like locals – definitely deserving of repeat visits. If the parking situation on the weekends were better, that would really help bring in the customers.
