We stopped at Cambridge, Ohio, for lunch and went to Theo’s on the recommendation of a local. Another local told us it was very popular. The interior is very nice; there’s plenty of seating. The service was prompt and friendly. My wife thought her home fries and fresh peach pie were “the best.” And I agree the pie was very good, even though I don’t really like peach pie. I thought my Coney dog and lemon meringue pie good, but ordinary. I expected better given the restaurant’s hype, but I give the restaurant credit for even having so many selections of freshly baked pie.
Theo’s has been in business since 1931, so I wanted to check it out. Nice old school atmosphere, the folks are very nice, made me feel at home more than at a restaurant. I had their BLT, a drink, and a slice of coconut cream pie. $16.77 with 20% tip. The prices are excellent. Great BLT, and the pie……..The BEST coconut cream pie I’ve had. Not too sweet, the cream didn’t separate from the filling, the flavor is spot on, and texture was perfect. I may have to fly Columbus, then drive to Cambridge again just to take my wife to Theo’s! Seriously, go eat there if you’re in town. You will leave with a happy tummy.
My wife and I stopped by Theo’s on a recommendation from a local. The food was great. The service, not so much.
We were seated right away. It took a little while for our waitress to come by, but we had to look at the menu anyway.
My wife ordered an Iced Tea and a Brisket Burger. I got a Cherry Dr Pepper and the Brisket Burger, which was a special that day for lunch. We told the waitress we’d probably want pie for dessert.
We got our drinks, and then our waitress brought our burgers and drink refills out shortly after.
The burgers and fries were very good and cooked perfectly.
Long after we were finished, we were looking for our waitress to order pie. She was nowhere to be found.
Being the smart donkey that I am, I called the restaurant and said: “I’d like to order a couple pieces of pie, to be delivered… to my table.” The guy that answered said he’d find my waitress.
We finally got our pie. I had the Banana Cream, and my wife had coconut cream. They were both very good and nice sized pieces.
The guy that answered the phone seemed like he was upset with me, but really, he should look at why I had to call.
Just to be clear, I took pictures of our food because I always review new places. The pictures of the pie were a half hour after the burgers. My phone call was over 20 minutes after we got our food. That’s how long it had been since we’d seen our waitress.
The food was excellent. But the service could have been a lot better, including the response to my phone call.
I would still recommend this place because of the menu and the quality of the food.
This restaurant was a great find while traveling 👍🏻 they have the best fries! 🍟
I planned a tour bus to visit The Living Word outdoor drama and was recommended to have Theo’s plan a buffet for our group. The room, ambience, and especially the food was fantastic. I can’t recommend them enough. They ended up being a popular feature of the trip, not just a place we ate. If we come back to the area,we will come back to Theo’s.
