This café is definitely worth a trip to Oxford! I couldn’t find authentic English food anywhere in London, but this place nailed it! We were strolling through the covered market when I saw a man at a table eating something incredibly appetizing. I sneakily took a photo and rushed to the waiter: “Show me what this is on the menu! I need it!”
We ended up ordering a steak and kidney pie with mushrooms, peas, and potatoes, and also fish and chips of course.
Then we had real scones for dessert, complete with clotted cream and jam. The waitstaff were very pleasant and helped us with our choices.
I highly recommend this place. It’s been around for 100 years!
Brown’s Cafe was a good place for me to get a fast sit-down café meal. I ordered an English breakfast with beans and toast. As an American tourist, I can say I thought it was pretty good (I specify because I am not an English food connoisseur). I had my food within maybe 5–10 minutes of ordering it. The waiter or counter staff did not seem thrilled, in his mannerisms, that I was a tourist; I’m excluding this primary due to my subjective interpretation.
Overall, I recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a fast bite to eat, particularly students.
Ain’t been here for years but went here this morning and the food and the service was excellent, had their Mochas and it’s really lovely chocolatey, we also had the Full Breakfast and The May Day Breakfast and just to say the May Day Breakfast is an absolute gut filler!!! If had choice I’d give 10 stars 🤩🤩✨✨✨
We got the mini breakfast with tomato and toast which was really good! The bacon was nice and crispy, egg was perfectly fried with runny yolk, and the toast had really good butter.
I was so glad to finally found this cafe inside the Covered Market where I can enjoy a traditional English breakfast set before I left Oxford. This is a lovely place with comfortable seatings, the lady at the cashier counter was friendly and cheerful and there were also some traditional goodies which I would love to try out if it’s not because of time constraints. I like the breakfast set I ordered, it was of generous portion and it was tasty and satisfying. Do give it a try if you happen to be in Oxford. Location of the cafe is near the Market street entrance.
