John Lewis Espresso Bar

1. I didn’t know there is such an airy space in the shopping mall! Great view above most roofs of the little city, with the clouds drifting by and the birds flapping wings outside of. The company history and posters are also fun to read.

   Coffee is better than I expected. I was impressed by the latte art in the tall narrow cup. Smooth and mellow. (Semi-skim is the only dairy option and other substitutes costs extra.) Cinnamon bun looks tall and impressive, but it’s not crispy and rather on the soggy side.

   The large selection of cakes and sandwiches seem fairly nice. The price is competitive with college cafes considering the side salad. Probably worthwhile to stop by to try some of them.

   No to-go boxes, but the space is nice and quiet for relaxing, snacking, and catching up with friends.

   – 2 The food is decent for the price! (Slightly elevated supermarket sandwiches but with a view) The chicken wrap tastes fresh with silky avocado and yoghurt sauce and I appreciate the fresh dill.

   The young man at the counter forgot to scan my card and said it’s too late when I mentioned it. 4.95 was not a big thing but I was really disappointed by the arrogant attitude, unlike his more helpful and professional colleague.

2. John Lewis membership sometimes rewards you with free offers of something to eat in their places to eat.
   The soup.and bun, plus a pumpkin wrap were delicious today. Served with warm sourdough, at the right temperature, it was thai spicy chicken for me. The wrap was suprisingly delicious -spinach, pumpkin, tomatoe- I’m going to replicate it at home! Very fitting to the Halloween theme, withour any gory staff.

3. Bright space, nice people, good coffee. High up in a generally low town so bonus view of Cambridge roofscape 👍

4. Absolutely stunning view from the window. I love the coffee, the cakes, and the atmosphere. The staff are all professional and accommodating. I enjoyed the cosy yet productive afternoons spent here.

5. Been several times but always unimpressed by slow service, people who work there leaving me standing there and ignoring me when there is no queue, like today – and when there is a queue, they take hours to serve you. Clearly, they ignore me, they did it today, and on other occasions when I am paying expensive prices – £8.70 for tea and a toasted sandwich, and very rude people bringing it to the table, when they eventually do!! Toasted sandwiches are not provided after 3pm, so if I miss lunch and can’t get there on time, I can’t have a toasted sandwich. Is there ANYWHERE in this hole of a town, where the staff are actually POLITE? I have yet to find anywhere, and I’ve been in Cambridge 40 years.
