Absolutely amazing fish & chips, especially the fish was very moist and had just the right amount of batter. Probably the best I ever had. We also tried the steak and kidney pie which we also liked and enjoyed a fried mars bar for dessert (see picture).
They do accept payment by card, which makes it very easy for those out of town.
Big extra plus for the friendliness of the staff and the generous portions. Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely will eat here again!
Ordered 3 different kind of fish with chips, cod roe and 2 types of sausages. Decent place for a casual lunch but nothing to shout about the texture of fish and batter. Normal fish chips and sausages with reasonable price.
The fish & chips was great. Cooked to order and served hot. I highly recommend it.
An absolute gem! Low key and laid back. We ate in. The atmosphere is not what you come for (though it was clean and comfortable). The haddock was incredible. We recommend the curry sauce for the chips. If you love great fish and chips, you will want to visit Mikes. Cheers!
I recently dined at this fish place and was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant doesn’t hide its look, leaning into the retro vibe without any obvious markings. The kitchen was observantly clean, and the staff were nice and welcoming. It’s a cash-only establishment, which was a pity, but I overheard it was because the card machine was down.
Don’t be put off by the staff speaking another language—it doesn’t take away from the authenticity of it all. This place caters to both locals and tourists, with many regulars frequenting it. They seem to do other foods quite well too—I noticed a gentleman enjoying a decently seasoned and cooked half chicken across from me.
The table was wiped clean, and despite some colour inconsistencies from age, there wasn’t a speck of dirt, which was wholly impressive.
The fish is made to order, so take a minute to let it cool down. It’s incredible—an impressive cut, nice size, with a batter that’s just right. Not too much, not too little. Bang. On. Highly recommended!
