I really love tucked away foodie gems and The Grove Cafe in Reading is one of them!! The area looks “dodgy” but don’t let that put you off. The best sign for a “good food joint” it’s a consistent foot fall…. This little place has it in buckets.
We ordered breakfast and two large Cappuccino’s. The coffee is great and doesn’t need sugar! The food was served speedily, HOT and fresh. Everything tasted amazing and there was no old oil taste. The guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful. The cherry on the cake was the cost £19:95 for 2 number 29 breakfasts and 2 large Cappuccino’s… BARGAIN!!!
My only criticism would be the shop is super quiet. It needs a little music/radio just to cut through the deafening silence.
Me and my partner went here today looking forward to a good fry up but boy was we disappointed. 20 quit for two breakfast and 2 cokes .The sausage was disgusting had a strange taste . Toast was like warm bread with cheep spread . Bacon was strange and missed hashbrowns off breakfast. I came out feeling yuk
Got to be the worse cafe I’ve ever eaten in. Bacon was cremated, sausages were cheap and over cooked, hash browns tasted like 400 year oil, which ironically is still younger than the clearly refilled “heinz” ketchup bottles that litter the tables. The teas looked like they have drops off oil floating in them. The worse part is completely solid fried eggs. For a cafe to mess up the basic breakfast when we are the only people in the place speaks volumes – HORRENDOUS- AVOID unless you can afford a week off work with food poisoning. Only decent thing to come out of this place is the exit.
My son took me for breakfast here last Sunday an we were both pleased with how nice the breakfast was all cooked just right nothing under or over cooked and it was very clean and very well presented.Willl definitely be going back and will be trying something off of their menu for lunch.
Location is a run down shopping centre with tramps sleeping on bench “not the cafe falt but will put people off. The food was poor at best. I work away for months at a time so finding a good breakfast at weekends is my treat. Alas this was not a good breakfast. Cheap sausages over cooked ,bacon dry and tasteless,a few mushrooms chopped and deep fried till dry ,eggs over cooked ( we all like a runny yoke) the killer blow was the tea ,I left the tea bag in for a good time ones removed it still tasted like hot water. Gutted.
